Backyard BBQ Contest

A Backyard Series contest is an inexpensive and fun way to get started with a barbecue contest.  The contest is a one day contest with small sites and requires very little infrastructure to run.

Backyard Series contests are limited to 10×15 sized sites for each contestant, no electric, 2-meats (chicken and ribs) and reasonable cash prizes and awards.  Each team captain must be a member of the society.  Each team must meet the society’s definition of a Backyard Team.

To get started, please contact us at sanctioning@stlouisbbqsociety.com to discuss a contest date and location.  Click here for a calendar to help you choose a date.

Once we get a date established, please fill out the SLBS Backyard Series Sanctioning Document and mail or email the application in along with the $50 application fee.  If you wish to pay this fee online, you may do so at the links at the bottom of this page.

For a new contest, we will have to approve the contest at the next regular board of directors meeting which is typically held on the first Thursday of each month.  Once the contest is approved, you will be assigned an ambassador that will help you get your contest off of the ground.

No less than 90 days prior to your contest date, the remainder of your contest fees are due as well as providing us with the required certificate of insurance with the society listed as an additional insured.  You can mail the form and check to us, or you can email the form and pay the remaining fees at the link at the bottom of this page.

You will find all of this information as well as additional setup instruction in the sanctioning document.

All contests are responsible for adhering to the rules and to the terms of the sanctioning agreement.
